The Automotive Retailers Association (ARA) is thrilled to announce the launch of our groundbreaking initiative, Tools for Tomorrow, a campaign designed to support the next generation of certified skilled tradespeople in British Columbia. As a passionate proponent for the growth and prosperity of our industry, the ARA recognizes the financial challenges (among others) that apprentices face when entering the automotive trades when it comes to acquiring essential tools. With this initiative, we aim to alleviate this burden by proposing to the provincial government the implementation of Provincial Sales Tax (PST) exemptions or grants, enabling these individuals to invest in the tools they need to succeed.

In the automotive industry, the significance of having reliable and high-quality tools cannot be overstated. These tools are not merely instruments but extensions of an individual’s skill and expertise. They allow apprentices to hone their craft, providing them with the means to diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles effectively. However, the cost of acquiring such tools can be prohibitively high, creating a significant barrier for newcomers who are embarking on their professional journey.

Through the Tools for Tomorrow initiative, we are committed to addressing this issue head-on. Our campaign provides a two-fold approach to support aspiring automotive professionals. We propose PST exemptions and grants specifically tailored to certified skilled trades apprentices and new members of the industry. Through grants or PST exemption on tools purchased, the ARA aims to alleviate the financial strain associated with these necessary investments. By relieving some of this financial pressure, we believe that individuals entering the automotive trade will be better positioned to focus on their education, skill development, and overall professional growth.

The Tools for Tomorrow campaign is driven by our deep commitment to fostering a thriving and inclusive automotive industry in British Columbia. As our industry continues to face workforce shortages, we firmly believe that by providing tangible support to apprentices and new entrants, we are not only investing in their success but also strengthening our trade overall. As an industry, we must collectively recognize the importance of removing barriers and nurturing talent to ensure a vibrant future for the automotive sector.

To achieve these ambitious goals, we invite various stakeholders, including government bodies, industry leaders, and passionate individuals, to join us in supporting Tools for Tomorrow. By combining our resources and expertise, we can expand the impact of this initiative beyond British Columbia, positively transforming the lives of aspiring skilled trades professionals and driving the industry forward.

Together, let us create a future where every apprentice and new member of the automotive industry in British Columbia has the tools they need to thrive.
