The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) clarifies the rules on purchasing vehicles with outstanding ICBC claims.

PROCESS FOR TRANSACTIONS INVOLVING VEHICLES WITH OUTSTANDING ICBC CLAIMS

ICBC has processes in place to support dealerships and commercial repair facilities who acquire vehicles from customers by trade-in or purchase and have claims that have not been repaired.  These processes are supported by ICBC’s claims department and allow the repairs to be completed after the vehicle has been transferred to the dealership or commercial repair facility.

The type of claim determines when the work must either be started or completed.  Glass claims must be initiated prior to the transfer of title to the dealership and the claim completed within 7 days.  Owners with vehicles involved in a claim must obtain a fully authorized ICBC repair estimate before title transfer and the repairs must be started within 7 days.

For specific information please refer to the following procedures on ICBC’s business partner webpage.
