Ministers Todd Stone and Terry Lake Present Industry Trades Funding to TRU

Dear Members,

We would like to share with you the following announcement from Minister Todd Stone:

On Wednesday, Ministers Todd Stone and Terry Lake presented Thompson Rivers University (TRU) with $300,000 for the purchase of new industry-standard trades equipment. The funding will go towards equipment for the carpentry, cook, mechanical, welding, automotive and millwright programs. Having the right tools, along with quality training means that TRU students will be able to develop the skills employers are looking for.

With nearly one million job openings expected in BC over the next decade, and eight out of 10 of these openings requiring post-secondary education, the government believes it is essential to prepare the workforce accordingly. To do so, the BC Government launched BC Skills for Jobs Blueprint in 2014 to align education and training with in-demand jobs in BC. Since its launch, TRU has received a total of $1.75 million towards the purchase of trades training equipment, as well as an additional $735,560 for 186 trades training seats to reduce wait lists.
