ICBC Policy changes on Glass – We are stronger together!

In light of ICBC’s recent communication to industry regarding changes to pricing and other policy changes and the serious consequences these actions will have on your business. We are asking each business to e-mail their MLA. In the email, ask them to review the letter and ask them for a meeting to discuss personally.

The ARA Glass Executive have met twice since the ICBC communication came out to develop a strategy to respond. Ken McCormack has spoken with both ICBC and the government to voice our concerns and have presented them with a letter outlining the serious consequences these changes will have on business. In addition, we have scheduled a meeting with the Premier – John Horgan, which will take place next week and we are launching a grassroots campaign to reach out to all MLAs.

This is where you come in. We need you to contact your MLA to show the government who you are, your business, the people your business supports and how your business will be impacted, the negative consequences resulting from the proposed ICBC changes.

The plan is as follows:

1. Email your MLA asking for a meeting. See the following link for the email address of your MLA: https://www.leg.bc.ca/learn-about-us/members

2. In the body of your email to the MLA keep it short and simply; let the MLA know that a recent communication that you received from ICBC affecting pricing and policy will have serious consequences on your business. Either write a short letter (click here for a template) Attach the letter and ask that they read the letter that is attached and ask for a follow up meeting to discuss further. Ideally you should insert the actual name of the MLA you are sending the email to, as well as your name, business in closing.

3. Please cc the following in your email: Minister David Eby; JAG.Minister@gov.bc.ca his Ministerial Assistant (George Smith) George.Smith@gov.bc.ca , and Doug Scott who is the Assistant Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General who is responsible for ICBC Douglas.S.Scott@gov.bc.ca and John Wood at ICBC; john.wood@icbc.com and me darrencox@ara.bc.ca

4. To ensure we contact as many MLAs possible, please inform us who are meeting with and when so we make sure we cover as much territory as possible.

Obviously time is of the essence so I would ask that you do this right away. I would be happy to join you for these meetings when I can. Our expectation is that the government will overturn the planned changes by ICBC so until proven otherwise they are our allies, be respectful.

Should these initiatives prove unsuccessful We are also planning an industry rally and will ask businesses to bring their company vehicles and create a convoy that we will drive the legislature or a Minster’s office (location has yet to be determined)

Please contact me if you have any questions or thoughts.

We are stronger together!
