New ICBC Data: Vehicle Crashes & Population

by David Ribeiro, ARA senior industry relations advisor

Making a business decision without having enough valid information can be difficult. Bearing in mind that “you don’t know what you don’t know,”  there is one thing I do know for sure and that is that data will talk to you, if you are willing to listen. It helps you make better business decisions and identify new opportunities.

I wanted to bring to your attention Data Sets now available on ICBC.com: https://www.icbc.com/about-icbc/newsroom/Pages/Statistics.aspx

If you are like me, you rarely see an accident, yet many shops have a backlog of repairs. Where do all these accidents take place? ICBC Crash Maps by Region answers this question.

What if you are only interested in a segment of those crashes? They have filters for that. Did you know that Kamloops has the highest number of animal impacts, with 376 in 2020 alone?

Most recently, ICBC added a “Contraventions” report that helps to identify the various types of infractions. Did you know that of the 104,000 intersection violations, nearly 69,000 were running a red light? I don’t think a vehicle is yet equipped with an “anti-red light running” feature, so it looks like we will continue to see front and side hits regardless of how smart a car is.

Check it out…and thanks to our partners at ICBC for providing access to this information. Every bit helps.
