Towing & Recovery Division Info

Towing & Recovery Division
The Towing and Recovery Division (TRD) of the ARA represents the interests of the towing industry in British Columbia. Volunteers from the TRD membership serve on the ICBC liaison committee on behalf of the BC towing industry to negotiate policies and rates for towing and storage of vehicles with ICBC insurance policies that have been involved in an MVA.

In 2008 the committee was successsful in establishing new storage rates across the province. It is also through this committee that we negotiated the Towing and Recovery Plus agreement. The Towing & Recovery Division is currently working with the provincial government with the goal of improving the current Vehicle Impound program. This is the program by which vehicles are removed from the road by a towing company and stored in that company's yard for a period of time following an impoundment order by police due to roadside license suspensions, impaired driving offenses, or other related situations. The issue for towing companies is that many of these vehicles end up being abandoned by the owner and are valued at less than the towing and storage invoice.

Another objective of the TRD is to increase the safety and professionalism of tow operators through education and training programs such as WreckMaster.

The TRD participates in similar initiatives on a national level through the ARA's membership in the the Towing and Recovery Alliance of Canada (TRAC)
